WEEK 4 - "Isolation"

an Access Bellingham Community short film

Working Together, Apart

Thank you to all of you who sent in clips for our "Signs of Spring" video.  As most of you know, the direction changed as the project moved forward.  Images of "happy springtime" blended with the concept of isolation and emptiness that is in the air right now.

From this unlikely combination came the short film "Isolation."

Homework

1 - WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEARN?

Any requests? What can I share with you that may help you create videos during this time? Are there areas that you want to improve in?

These lessons are for YOU and I hope to offer you something valuable. So please let me know.

1 - MAKE YOUR OWN MONTAGE VIDEO

Want to take on a challenge? Film the world around you and set the images to music.

Although you'll only have a 3:minute final video (approx.), plan on spending a half day filming. It takes time to find those images that you are really happy with.

What to film? Really anything that interests you. Possibilities are:

- buildings

- beaches

- gardens

- water

- alleys

- food

- animals

- trees

- shadows

- light

- sculptures

- art

- happiness

- isolation

.... the list is truly endless.

TWO IMPORTANT POINTS:

One

Go in with a goal. It is usually not enough to say "I am going to go film something interesting". That can leave you running around with you camera in your bag and never pressing record. Instead, have a goal, no matter how silly it might seem at first:  "I am going to film cool rocks" ... that will get you further.

Two

Have fun and stay safe.

3 - SHARE YOUR VIDEOS

Share your videos with our Facebook Group.

Chickens - the movie

Here's a little video I did for inspiration. For those of you who know me, you'll find it no surprise that I made a video about chickens. Simple montage of shots set to music.

Need music?

A favorite site of mine for free music is "FMA" Free music archive.

https://freemusicarchive.org/

They have a wide selection of music that is a great match for a montage video. And its all free.

- click on "Search FMA"

- then, in the search bar type in a genra you are interested. (for example "folk")

You'll likely get lots of good hits.

I always like to credit the musician and song in my videos. I think it is good practice.

simple as:
