WEEK 12 - Editing:

Understanding the Magnetic Storyline

Magnetic Storyline and Connected Clips

The PROJECT window is the most confusing part of Final Cut Pro X ... it's also the most important to understand. (after organization of course).

The first thing to know is that FCPX works with:

  • a MAGNETIC PRIMARY STORYLINE

  • with CONNECTED CLIPS

In this tutorial. I'll go into detail of what that means and how to edit using the project window. Warning, this is a long one ...

Enjoy

The Best Tutorial on YouTube

The tutorial above is my favorite .. in fact I'm calling it the best tutorial on the internet!

Ok - that's a bold statement. There are literally thousands of FCPX tutorials on YouTube. I should say this one is the best for me.

Of all the instructors I've seen on YouTube, I think this guys editing workflow and how he uses the tools is closest to the way I work.  There are hundreds of ways to use Final Cut and I'm guessing this guy comes from the old school of film and early digital video... so the way he thinks about editing is similar to the way I think about editing. The tools he uses are the tools I use and the ones he ignores are the ones I ignore.

If you complete the earlier video in organization, and the video above about the Magnetic Timeline, you should be well on your way. Then check out this video and you'll have a solid understanding of editing in FCPX.

Watch and you decide how you like it. If you like others better, share on our Facebook page.
